Historic Sacred Heart Restoration
OUR CURRENT PROJECT
The construction of Sacred Heart Church began in 1915 and was completed section by section over the course of the following few decades. The structure was designed by Iowa architect William Steele in his unique Romanesque style with prairie influences. Dedicated in 1922, the church served the community for nearly 97 years until it closed its doors in the fall of 2019.

Preserve Fort Dodge seeks to restore this historically and architecturally significant building to its former glory, keeping its beauty and grandeur a continued part of our community for generations to come. The group continues to brainstorm new and exciting uses for the space, and would love to hear from anyone who has ideas. It is our hope that others will see all the possibilities this building has and dream with us as we work towards making its restoration a reality.
